Your First Export Shipment: 12 Tips

A practical checklist for companies sending goods across a border for the first time.

First exports fail on paperwork, not logistics. Register for an EORI or equivalent trader number before you book anything, and confirm the buyer can legally import what you are selling.

Pack for the journey, not the shelf. Ocean containers see 40°C swings and constant vibration; retail packaging alone will not survive it.

Finally, insure the shipment for commercial invoice value plus freight plus ten percent. Carrier liability limits are measured in kilograms, not in what your goods are worth.
